A charming Kay Bojesen classic turns 70. With his open mouth and quirky expression, the Hippopotamus is a figure that you love at first sight. It is almost too funny to be true, and it is easy to understand why Kay Bojesen was inspired by one of the most original characters in the animal kingdom when he created his well-known and beloved Hippopotamus back in 1955. Unlike most of Kay Bojesen's other wooden animals, which are most often seen in soft and round shapes, the Hippopotamus is somewhat more square in design with predominantly straight and even lines - on the other hand, it shines with a big and loving smile and lots of power and a twinkle in its eye. And then the Hippopotamus has that unmistakable expression of care and harmony. Yes, it is almost as if the strong wooden figure is communicating, 'trust me, I always have your back'.

According to the archives, Kay Bojesen himself had a grey hippo standing on his desk, and the big birthday is celebrated with two anniversary editions in FSC®-certified beech wood painted in an exclusive grey colour – a real hippo colour – while the large mouth is painted pink. Whether you choose this 9 cm high anniversary version or the slightly smaller 6 cm Liliput edition, you will get handmade quality in a beloved playful and timeless design, where the Hippos with their friendly expression, round eyes and long strong shape will add a touch of coziness and warmth to any room. Use them, for example, as small surprising design elements in the home that peek out where you least expect it. The two grey Hippos will only be produced in 2025 and will therefore also be an obvious choice as a unique gift for a christening, birthday, graduation gift, wedding – or the big anniversary.

    What is the Summer handling times?

    What is the Christmas handling times?

    Please note that the handling time is longer than usual from December 14 to January 2. All orders placed in this period will be handled in the first week of the new year. We expect to dispatch the majority of the orders between January 2 and January 5.

    PAPER CORD & NAILS: We will dispatch the last orders of the year including paper cord and nails on December 19. 

    We are closed for the Christmas holidays from December 22 to January 2 and will not be answering messages during this period. We will be back again on January 2 and start handling orders and reply to messages.

    Can I have my order shipped later?

    Yes, please add the date from which you can receive the shipment in the comments field at checkout. We will then delay the pickup of the shipment so it arrives shortly after your requested date.
