Before the performance and during the intermission, The Ticket Boy is the circus's most important person.
He checks the tickets, hands out programmes and stuffs cardboard cups with popcorn to the audience - all at the same time.

Outside the circus tent, the atmosphere is buzzing. Everyone is talking at once and children are jumping on the spot with pure excitement. A little girl is pointing to a poster: "Look mum, she's the tightrope walker."
A queue begins to form in front of the tent's entrance, because before the show can start, guests have to pay the entrance fee at the ticket booth. This is where The Ticket Boy is busy keeping track of everything. The drawer of the cash register is sliding back and forth, the popcorn is popping and the candy floss is growing into a big pink ball of sugar.
It’s not long before the queue has gone and the ticket boy can hear the familiar sound of the orchestra starting from inside the tent and The Ringmaster welcoming everyone to another evening performance. "Phew", he thinks. “At least there’s a while before the intermission."
